I have been thinking about subscribing to a couple investment newsletters. I want to get good information from smart investment advisors as I make my investment decisions.
The problem is that I know most people who actively trade stocks rarely outperform the general index performance. I also saw a recent study that showed that only a few of the numerous investment newsletters gave advice that led to a stock portfolio that outperformed the average market results.
This makes me wonder if the people who outperform the market do so because of superior knowledge and trading strategies or if it is because they get lucky in a big way with a few of their picks.
Does anyone here subscribe to investment newsletters? Has anyone tried the newsletters from Motley Fool? Any other newsletters people would suggest trying?
I guess I have to decide if I am going to actively trade stocks and if I will, what information and strategies I will use to do so. I know I shouldn't base my decisions on investment newsletters, but I am considering having them as part of my information mix.
If you saw a study that says most investment newsletters don't outperform the general markets, then I think you have your answer.
It matters what you are looking for. If you are looking for specific stock picks, then the study says you will be disappointed. However, if you are looking to increase your knowledge in a certain sector, then investment newsletters will feed you a steady source of information.
