What Does The Current Market Tell Us About Investing?

I have been trying to figure out the stock market for a long time.

Sometimes the market seems to make sense.

Other times, the market makes no sense at all.

The recent stock market plunge immediate recovery is one of those times when I just shake my head.

Investigators, journalists, and economic experts still can't fully explain what happened.

My current theory is that it was some sort of rigged event by some of the big players to make some quick profits.

I have no idea what actually happened. All I know is that most of the small investors are like row boats on the ocean. We can try to figure out which way to row our boats, but big waves and big ships cruising past us should remind us that we are almost powerless in our current situation.

What has the current market fluctuations taught you about your own investing strategies?

It really is frustrating to see something major happen and have all the experts saying they have no idea what happened. How are we supposed to figure out what to do in the market if there are things that happen that the experts don't even understand. They study and watch the market their entire lives. I get a chance to read about and study the stock market a few hours per week.

Makes me think that I need to focus on long-term investments in good companies with good balance sheets and good prospects for future growth.

That is the ticket. People need to focus less on the overall market numbers and get laser focused on specific companies and industries.
