Inverse Funds For Gold Prices

Has anyone here invested in an inverse fund?  I just found out about them and wanted to hear any thoughts or advice from someone who has experience with them. From what I understand, inverse funds are designed to do the opposite of the market or specified funds.  It is an interesting thought for the next time the economy is in bubble land. Can I buy into an inverse fund that is tied to the price of gold?See More

"So true. Wouldn't it be great if we really had to work hard to gain weight? I can't even imagine having trouble spending money that was coming in very easily. Not in our society!"

Losing Money, Gaining Weight

When it comes to money and weight, I have figured out that they have a similar yet opposite rule.Weight is easy to gain and very difficult to lose.Money is easy to spend, and very difficult to make. This truth is very frustrating on both topics.I can work very hard to lose a few pounds over the course of a month and then gain it all back within one bad weekend full of bad choices. In a similar way, I can work hard all month to make my paycheck and then poof, most of it can be gone with one…See More

Tom McCann replied to Willie's discussion 'Is Buy And Hold Still Viable?'
"That is an interesting point about how people need to buy and hold because that is all they are capable of doing. This doesn't mean people who are too dumb to invest, but also doctors, lawyers, entrepreneurs, etc... who don't have the time…"

Losing Money, Gaining Weight

When it comes to money and weight, I have figured out that they have a similar yet opposite rule.

Weight is easy to gain and very difficult to lose.

Money is easy to spend, and very difficult to make.

This truth is very frustrating on both topics.

I can work very hard to lose a few pounds over the course of a month and then gain it all back within one bad weekend full of bad choices.

In a similar way, I can work hard all month to make my… Continue

Gloomy Baby Boomer Investors

I'm on the road visitng family and friends for the holidays.

My parents, in-laws, and many relatives are baby boomers.

I have been watching the latest stock market drop with interest, but I haven't really been too distressed about it because I am young and have a lot of time for the market to rebound before I need my money. I see this more as a buying opportunity.

However, by visiting with so many baby boomers, I have had the ability to see the gloom this market… Continue

If I Invest $100 A Month Will I Be A Millionaire?

If i invest $100 a month will i be a millionaire?

I guess the most important part of the equation is how long I will be investing $100 a month.

I did a search on Google for a compounding interest calculator (because each year my earnings will be determined by how much I have saved and how much interest my savings had earned the previous years).

The compounding interest calculator gives me the following results if I start with no money and invest $100 a month at… Continue

SRI Funds Create Positive Returns

I saw the recent post about how more 401(k) funds are starting to include socially responsible investment fund options.

I checked with my 401(k) advisor and found out that I did have a few recently added SRI fund options. I'm now in the process of changing my asset allocation to include the new SRI funds.

Before I decided to make the change, I did some research into the SRI funds. I found out that the notion that SRI funds generate smaller returns is more myth than… Continue

The CNBC Monopoly on Financial Information

I know some cable line-ups offer bloomberg financial news and maybe a few others, but when I watch television, CNBC is the main source for financial information.

Is it a good thing to have one company (GE) with near monopoly control over cable financial news?

There certainly are a number of programs offered on the channel, but most of them operate according to the same commercial format. They all seem to have the same goal of getting more people to invest in the stock… Continue
