I would think it would be easier to start a business when the economy is strong. Starting a business during a strong economy when consumers are throwing their money at anything that moves would be easier than starting a business now when consumer spending is being drastically cut back.
I'm trying to remain positive with my new business investments. For people who have been reading my posts on this site, you know that I got myself out of debt and now spend my old "debt repayment budget" on starting an online business.
I'm really glad I decided to experiment with doing business online. If I had taken a larger risk by renting a storefront, hiring employees and stocking shelves with inventory, then this recession and cut back in consumer spending would be even more devastating.
I'm trying to remain confident. I found a stat the other day that the internet still only represents about 21% of all media being consumed in this country. I also found a stat that says that online advertising only represents 7% of the total media advertising. I expect both of these numbers to rise substantially over the years.
I think my stock portfolio will continue to take a hit as the market continues to weaken. My best scenario would be to find some sort of quick success on the internet so I will have extra money to invest now while stocks are cheap.
I'll keep you posted on how things go. I always appreciate any advice or motivation anyone can offer.
