I saw the recent post about how more 401(k) funds are starting to include socially responsible investment fund options.

I checked with my 401(k) advisor and found out that I did have a few recently added SRI fund options. I'm now in the process of changing my asset allocation to include the new SRI funds.

Before I decided to make the change, I did some research into the SRI funds. I found out that the notion that SRI funds generate smaller returns is more myth than fact.

I also saw a stat that only 2 out of five 401(k) programs include SRI funds right now so I was glad that my program is one of the few programs that offers SRI funds.

While thinking about SRI funds this weekend, I had a conversation with an uncle who works for a paper company. He was telling me about some of the big orders he had with big companies. He said he spent most of last week gathering information about where the paper comes from and how the paper impacts the environment. He said the research was fairly easy because the paper companies now publish their environmental impact research so their customers can report it for investment reasons.

So while I was deciding if I should invest in socially responsible investment funds, I got a real world example of how the SRI funds are leading companies to pay attention to the environmental impact their purchases and decisions are having on the environment.
