I think my investing mindset has gone a little too far.

I have myself trained so well to put money into investments each month, that I don't want to spend my money on anything else.

I know I need a new vehicle, but I don't want to spend the thousands of dollars a new vehicle will cost me. I just keep driving the same car that is bound to break down at any moment.

I've never been a spender. I spend money on little things, but I generally hate to go shopping and I never care about my personal image or keeping up with the latest trends. This is a good thing for saving money, but I might be going a little too far now.

I wonder if I should relax a little bit and allow myself to spend some money on things that might bring me more enjoyment or safety in the present instead of always planning for the future.

I think your problem is a good one. So many people have the opposite problem where they spend too much and save too little.

I'm not sure of your exact numbers, but if you feel like you are starting to cut back on some of the necessities instead of just some of the wants, then it might be time to spend a little more money in the present instead of only trying to save for the future. This whole process is for our overall health, safety, and happiness so we need to balance our current needs with our future needs.

I certainly understand that once you start the process of saving money, it can be a little addicting.

I really enjoy watching my retirement portfolio number to see how high I can get it. Watching my portfolio fall in value this past year was devastating, but it motivated me to save more money.

I too have to remind myself that investing is about quality of life both now and in the future.

Quality of life is definitely something to keep in mind. While deferred gratification is good, it's only true up to a point.
